Beginner's Mind

“Just look into your heart, my friend, it will be the return to yourself, the return to innocence.”

In the classes we teach at the Center, we say that we are in “psychic kindergarten”.  Sometimes students will get in great resistance when we introduce the concept of kindergarten.  One would assume that kindergarten would be an easy concept to grasp, but actually it is just the opposite.  When we spend our lives being programmed that more is better and that we must compete to succeed, the concept of kindergarten can seem vary naive.  When I meet someone who knows how to be in the energy of kindergarten, I know I have met a wise and loving soul.

The importance of this energy as a spiritual attribute is stressed in all traditions.  Jesus said that one of the keys to the kingdom of heaven (which is within you) is to come as a small child.  Beginner’s Mind is what it is called in Buddhism.  Often spiritual masters are described as being very childlike.  At the Center, we just call it “kindergarten.”

What is important about kindergarten you may ask?  Well, when you are living from this place, life is simply a great adventure to be open to and enjoyed.  No reason to judge yourself for any mistakes when it is all just good information for your growth.  And really, are there any mistakes anyway?  You can choose to be amused and delighted.  How can you not be amidst all this wonder?  The cup is half full because life is about continuous comprehension not ego advancement.  Being in the energy of kindergarten allows you to experience the innocence and purity that we sometimes lose touch with as adults.  Sound good?  Join us for a class and return to yourself!
